Britain’s most famous fashion duo, Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine, are on the brink of cracking the hugely lucrative U.S. market, I can reveal.
A pilot show made by the pair called Trinny And Susannah Making Over America was aired last week and was, sources report, a massive success with viewers.
Executives at the TLC network were so impressed by the performance of the British makeover queens, who fronted What Not To Wear for the BBC, that they are keen for them to present a lifestyle show - and are said to be offering six-figure deals.
Land of opportunity: Trinny and Susannah have been offered a lucrative deal in the U.S.
But while the presenters and their agents are said to be thrilled with the development, there’s a fly in the ointment.
Trinny, who recently separated from her husband, is delighted at the prospect of a new start in the States, but her sidekick is less keen on the idea.
Naked ambition: Trinny is delighted by the offer, but Susannah has other concerns
Susannah was unable to make a last-minute promotional trip to the U.S. last Friday ahead of the pilot show’s transmission following a death in her family, and I’m told she is apprehensive about uprooting from her West Sussex home to live in America.
‘Trinny was all up for the idea of moving to the States,’ says a mole.
‘She was saying how her trip to LA last summer was great fun and she loves America and has loads of friends here, and could definitely see herself living here.
'But she said that Susannah would never move out full-time. She has too many family commitments, which could cause a problem if they do become a success in the States.’
If a series gets the go-ahead, the pair would need to spend at least half the year across the pond filming it.
And according to a TV insider: ‘They’d be expected to shoot programmes back-to-back to keep costs down, so that six months in the States would need to be in one solid chunk.’
A spokesman for the couple would only say: ‘They have done a pilot and TLC is looking at the audience figures and considering Trinny and Susannah’s future.’
It seems the pair have some serious thinking to do.
