Once he wraps "Shutter Island", director Martin Scorsese is determined to make the long developing "Silence" his next movie says Variety.

Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro are in negotiations to star in the project while Gael Garcia Bernal is also circling the film.

Based on the Shusaku Endo novel, the drama is set in the 17th century as two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity.

Production kicks off later this year in New Zealand. Jay Cocks adapted the script and GK Films will produce.
